Water Treatment in The Acreage — What You Need to Know

The Acreage is where Simple Water Service cut its teeth. We've installed more systems here than any other community — thousands of homes over 18+ years. Every lot in The Acreage runs on private well water, which means every home needs treatment. There's no municipal water supply, no county filtration, no chlorine disinfection. What's in the ground is what comes out of your tap.

Acreage well water is notoriously challenging. The Surficial Aquifer here produces water with high iron (causing orange staining on everything), hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell), extreme hardness (250-400+ ppm), and often elevated bacteria counts. Some areas near the L-8 canal have tannin issues that turn water tea-colored. Standard off-the-shelf filters from big box stores simply can't handle Acreage water — we know because we've replaced hundreds of them.

Our standard Acreage installation is a three-stage system: AirGuard oxidizing filter (iron, sulfur, manganese removal) → water softener (hardness elimination) → carbon post-filter (taste, odor, organics). For homes with bacteria concerns (common in shallow wells or older well casings), we add UV sterilization. For drinking water, a point-of-use RO system gives you bottled-water quality from your kitchen tap.

We understand Acreage properties. Many are 1.25-acre lots with outbuildings, workshops, or detached garages that need water. We design systems to handle the full property, not just the main house. And because we're local (not a franchise driving in from the coast), we're here for maintenance, salt delivery, filter changes, and annual re-tests.

The Acreage community trusts Simple Water Service because we've been here since the beginning. We know the aquifer, we know the soil, we know which neighborhoods have more iron vs more sulfur, and we size systems accordingly.

Palm Beach County

Our Acreage well water had iron, sulfur, and hardness all at once. The big box store filter lasted 3 months. SWS installed an AirGuard + softener + carbon system. Two years later — zero staining, zero smell, and the salt delivery keeps us topped up without thinking about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from Palm Beach County homeowners.

Acreage homes draw from private wells — there's no municipal water supply available. Your water comes straight from the Surficial Aquifer with whatever minerals, iron, sulfur, and bacteria are naturally present in the ground. There's no treatment plant, no chlorination, and no monitoring unless you do it yourself. That's why well water treatment isn't optional here — it's essential.
